Impact Fees Update

January 16, 2008 - The County Council held a work session on January 15, 2008 where Dr. James Nicholas, the author of the Impact Fee Study, made a presentation regarding the proposed impact fees. (Please contact our office for a copy of the presentation). During the lengthy discussion, many Council members raised concerns regarding the basis for Dr. Nicholas' findings and how the fees were established. Some Council members suggested that a better approach might be to create a fee or tax, which funds could be applied directly to school maintenance. Impact fees may only be used for expansion of facilities and not maintenance. The Council is preparing to introduce the legislation on January 22 and a public hearing would then follow on February 19.
